One name, two markets. The West is tight, the Midwest is loose, and the spread tells you when to buy.

THE 30-SECOND VERSION Midwest markets are converging — Rock Valley IA, Pipestone MN, and Dakota SD are all within $3/ton of each other this week. That kind of alignment hasn't happened all season. Rock Valley sold slightly lower than last week due to rain and muddy yard conditions — expect a bounce next week when it dries out. Source: Rock Valley Hay Auction, direct.

THE 30-SECOND VERSIONSpring buying season is here and prices are moving fast. Pipestone MN jumped $41/ton in one week — from $109 to $150/ton. Rock Valley IA is hitting $205/ton for premium alfalfa. If you've been waiting to buy, the window is closing. Prices this week confirm what the drought data has been signaling for months — supply is tightening and demand is accelerating.

🌾 HayWire Weekly Issue #2 — March 2nd 2026

THE 30-SECOND VERSION: Midwest alfalfa is holding steady — good-quality large rounds are trading $105–$128/ton across MN, IA, and SD auction markets this week, with no major swings from last week. The story this issue is the spread: that same good alfalfa is going for $228/ton in Indiana and $405/ton (premium grass) in Pennsylvania. If you're in the Midwest, you're buying at a significant discount to the rest of the country. If you're selling and can move hay east, there's margin sitting on the table.
