Dakota, SD edged up $5 to $225/ton on 70 tons this week vs 104 last week, so it held firm on lighter hay. | | Mixed Grass at $180. Mixed Grass printed firm again, and this week's level is the top of its recent run. | | California demand against supply. California shows good demand on good supply, a notch softer on demand, while Good alfalfa slipped. |
| What we’re watching this week | 1 | Crop Progress, Tuesday, October 13. Pasture and range ratings. Poor pasture pulls hay feeding forward, and that would test whether the grass strength has legs. | | 2 | Orchard Grass at $139. It fell 8.0 percent while Mixed Grass rose. Another drop would show buyers paying up for some grass types and passing on others. | | 3 | Bluestem Grass at $125. It barely moved, up 0.5 percent. A steady print next week would show the grass rally is narrow, not across every grass type. |
| The Read Grass hay is drawing the money this fall while alfalfa gives ground, with its index down 19.3 percent across recent weeks. Dakota, SD runs against that tide, well above the $86/ton it brought in the same week a year ago, so better alfalfa still finds a home. | Advertise This slot is open.
